Behavioral Health Integration Symposium Announced
August 30th, 2017 | Network NewsOn October 13th the URMC Department of Psychiatry, Division of Collaborative Care & Wellness is hosting its second annual Rochester Behavioral Health Integration Symposium, an event focused on the value that integrated medical and behavioral health care can bring to patients, providers and health care systems.
Open to physicians and multidisciplinary health care providers from across the community, the symposium will discuss sustainable, research-proven, integrative approaches to cost-effectively improve health outcomes for individuals coping with both medical and behavioral issues.
The keynote speaker is Roger Kathol, MD, MPE, president of Cartesian Solutions and an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota. Kathol has nearly 25 years’ experience in the practical application of integrated clinical practice, and specializes in assisting hospitals and clinics with the implementation of outcome-oriented work processes. He is particularly focused on teaching about evidence-based models of care that successfully integrate psychiatry with other areas of medicine.
“The bottom line is that the number of mental health providers in the U.S. is simply not large enough to meet the patient demand, and primary care and hospital settings are often left to pick up the slack,” says symposium coordinator and AHP Associate Medical director for Behavioral Health, George Nasra, MD, MBA. “I think that physicians across specialties, as well as advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, social workers, and administrative personnel will find the symposium valuable by providing some possible solutions.”
