Accountable to EDI is a recurring feature in Network News that highlights opportunities and initiatives related to equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts at AHP, the UR Medicine system, and within the community at large.

Dr. David Satcher Community Health Improvement Awards and Grand Rounds: The University of Rochester Medical Center’s Center for Community Health & Prevention is hosting the 14th annual Dr. David Satcher Community Health Improvement Awards honoring URMC faculty, staff, and community partners for their significant contributions to community health through research, teaching, practice and service programs. This year’s event features keynote speaker David Satcher, MD, PhD, for whom these awards are named, presenting “Revisiting the Highs and Lows of Public Health Practice.”

Dr. Satcher is the founding director and senior advisor at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the 16th Surgeon General of the United States and former Secretary for Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Satcher completed his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in the 1970s and continues to be involved in community health efforts in Rochester.

The Satcher Awards will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd, from 12:00 to 1:30 pm. The event’s hybrid format will allow participants to attend in person and online. Register for the event here.
