COVID-19 Vaccines for Children Under 5

AHP continues to offer periodic updates and resources regarding COVID-19s impact on our community. Earlier this month, the FDA approved two vaccines for use in children under 5 years old to defend against COVID-19. To support the vaccination efforts of providers in our network caring for children, we would like to offer the following resources:

  • Golisano Children’s Hospital (GCH) FAQ: The GCH Pediatric Infectious Disease team, who led COVID-19 vaccine studies in the Rochester area developed an FAQ for parents of young children who are now eligible for COVID-19 vaccination. The FAQ is available here.
  • NYSDOH Guidelines COVID-19 Vaccination Ages-6 months+: NYSDOH’s COVID-19 guidance is now updated to include children ages 6 months through 5 years old. View the guidance here.
  • NYSDOH Screening Checklist and Consent Form Ages-6 months+: In addition to updated guidelines, the screening checklist and consent form for COVID-19 vaccination has also been updated and is available here.
  • Common Ground Health Infographic: Common Ground Health has created an FAQ infographic to answer questions about vaccination in the 6 months through 4 years old group. The FAQ is intended to be printed in the 8.5” x 11” size, but may be scaled up as needed. View and download the FAQ here.
  • AHP COVID-19 Vaccination Toolkit: The vaccination toolkit developed by AHP to aid vaccination efforts in the 5-11 years old group is being updated to include young children. Changes are expected in the coming days, and the toolkit can be viewed here.
  • CDC Key Messages for Parents of Young Children: The CDC published key messages to assist providers in their ongoing discussions about COVID-19 vaccination for young children. View the key messages here.
  • Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Formulation Guides: Both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna have updated their formulation guides to feature packaging and dosing information for children under 5 years old. View Pfizer’s formulation guide here or Moderna’s formulation guide here.
  • Golisano Children’s Hospital (GCH) Vaccine Clinics: GCH will be offering the Pfizer COVID-19 pediatric vaccine for children 6 months up to their 5th birthday on select Wednesdays and Saturdays over the summer. The clinic is meant to serve children who are otherwise unable to be vaccinated by their primary care office. The link to schedule is: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/coronavirus.aspx
