Enhanced Features in ePartner for Community Practices

Enhanced Features in ePartner for Community Practices

April 28th, 2023 | Network News

UR Medicine is enhancing ePartner functionality for community practices that will improve their ability to follow their patients’ care at UR Medicine specialist offices and facilities, consequently improving the continuity of care throughout the system. The three-phase project began on April 10th when 10 pilot sites were granted access to place orders electronically for referrals to URMC specialists and for radiology and cardiology procedures. Pilot sites can also create a progress note in ePartner that renders in tandem with notes created by URMC providers, an important feature that supports better continuity of care. In May, the project will introduce the ability to place orders electronically for labs and UR Home Care and Hospice ordering for pilot practices. These same features will become available to additional community practices in June. Practices already using ePartner will see communications from the Regional Support team requesting the information necessary to enable this new functionality for their sites in the coming weeks.

The expansion of ePartner functionality for roughly 400 sites and 2,000 individual users will continue through the end of 2023 and will reduce barriers that can delay patient care, such as the current dependence on faxing requisitions. Community provider offices gaining access to these enhanced features in ePartner will continue to document in their EMR and will transcribe orders to ePartner, which are immediately added to workflows in eRecord. Additional features, such as document uploading and email notifications, will be introduced through the end of 2023 as they become available.

Community practices should note that the expanded ePartner functionality available through this project differs from the Community Connect project also underway at URMC. Through Community Connect, providers purchase eRecord from URMC to use as their EMR. In contrast, ePartner practices use their own EMR to document and bill and use ePartner to follow their patients’ care at other medical offices. The team leading the Epic Connect Program for URMC presented at last year’s Practice Managers meeting on June 8th. You can view the slides here to learn more about the project.
