The beginning of the year often brings affordability issues for patients with newly-reset deductibles. It is important to keep value-based prescribing at the forefront of practice to ensure that patients are able to afford the medications that they need in order to improve outcomes. This edition of Pharmacy Pearls gives an example of one method that drug manufacturers use to extend medication patent lives and prevent generic competition, as well as a systematic thought process to help prescribers evaluate the cost effectiveness of medications.
