Supplies of backordered medications frequently vary among pharmacies within the same chain. Most pharmacies have the ability to see if the product is in stock at another store nearby and will do so upon request.

- If a pharmacy calls regarding product availability, staff can be trained to ask “Could you please check if the product is available at another Wegmans/Walmart/Walgreens/Rite Aid nearby?”
Supplies also vary based on wholesale distributors. Most of the major area chains use the same supplier, meaning if the wholesaler is experiencing a supply shortage, each of these chains will be impacted. URMC uses an alternative wholesaler and may have different access to drugs with limited availability.

- If a drug is unavailable at Wegmans, Walmart, Walgreens, or Rite Aid, contact UR Outpatient Pharmacy at 585-275-4931 to check availability.
