AHP Clinical Pharmacists to Offer Pharmacy Outreach Service

AHP Clinical Pharmacists to Offer Pharmacy Outreach Service

August 2nd, 2018 | Clinical ConnectionsPharmacy Pearls

Starting at the end of August, AHP’s clinical pharmacists will be offering on-site provider visits to provide up-to-date, objective evidence focusing on outpatient medication management topics. These visits are:
• Typically 10-15 minutes, based on providers’ schedules
• 1:1 or in group provider settings, whichever is more convenient
• Intended to be interactive- the clinical pharmacist will come with material prepared but will be able to engage in conversation with the provider(s)

The first available topic is “Respiratory Clinical Updates,” offering clinical pearls including COPD guideline updates, the role for triple-medication inhaled therapy, comparative costs of ICS/LABAs, and more. Providers can request that the clinical pharmacist return at a later date to cover other topics of interest related to outpatient pharmacotherapy.

If you are interested in having a clinical pharmacist visit to your office, work with your AHP care manager or contact Erica Dobson (Manager, Pharmacy Services) or Jenny Radcliffe (Clinical Pharmacist) to schedule a time.

Pharmacy Network Changes for Excellus Managed Medicaid: As of September 1, 2018, CVS and Target retail pharmacies will no longer participate in the Excellus Managed Medicaid network. This means that patients with Excellus Medicaid managed care or Child Health Plus coverage will need to fill their prescriptions at another network pharmacy to avoid paying the full cost of their prescriptions. As of the same date, Excellus is adding Walgreens retail pharmacies to the network for these patients. Letters to notify patients as well as patient lists for providers were sent directly by Excellus. Patients with questions about participating pharmacies should contact Excellus Customer Service.
