Prescription Take Back Event: May 19, 2018
April 13th, 2018 | ArchivePlease see a message below from George Nasra, AHP’s Behavioral Health Medical Director, regarding a local prescription drug take back event on May 19, 2018.
Colleagues,
Medicines play an important role in treating many conditions and diseases and when they are no longer needed it is important to dispose of them properly. Keeping unused drugs around is risky on many levels; they may be confused with other drugs currently prescribed and they can cause serious injury or death if taken by mistake or if misused intentionally. As studies show, a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet, therefore it is even more important that we dispose properly of any unused medications in the household.
On May 19, 2018 the Department of Surgery Residency Program in collaboration with the NYS Troopers and the State Trooper Surgeons are sponsoring a prescription drug take back station which will be located in the Employee parking lot 8 outside the Flaum Atrium at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Members of the community are invited to drop off any unused medications and pharmaceuticals between 11am and 2pm at that location. All participants will be welcome to join in on a barbecue sponsored by the Department of Surgery Residency Program.
We also would like to remind you that many counties in the region have established pharmaceutical waste collection drop boxes in their towns through the local police and Sheriff offices. A list of drop boxes in the Monroe County region can be found here. You are encouraged to contact your local police department for similar programs in your area.
