- Modern Echoes of Historic Institutionalized Racism: Associations Between Previously “Redlined” Districts and Current Obstetric Outcomes: The University of Rochester’s Department of Public Health Sciences and the Center for Community Health & Prevention are hosting a webinar on Friday, October 7, from 12 pm to 1 pm. Stefanie Hollenbach, MD, MS, Assistant Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology, URMC, will discuss the striking racial and ethnic disparities that exist in obstetric outcomes in the United States despite much higher health care expenditure than comparable countries. Local implications and examples will also be provided. Physicians and social workers can earn continuing education credit for their attendance. View the flyer and register here.
- URMC’s Better Together: Equity, Anti-Racism, and a New Way Forward Conference: URMC’s Office of Equity & Inclusion is hosting the Better Together Conference on Friday, October 14, from 7 am to 5 pm. This day-long event offers education and learning opportunities with engaging conversations, skill-building, and networking. Throughout the conference, the “what if…” question assists our collective ability to be united by a common goal of uplifting those who have been historically marginalized and oppressed. Eliseo J Pérez-Stable, NIH Director of Minority Health and Health Disparities, and Cecilia Gentili, Principal Consultant & Founder of Trans Equity Consulting, will be the event’s speakers. The in-person conference is open to community members, free to attend, and includes lunch. Participants are welcome to join via Zoom for the keynote address only.
