Celebrate National Breastfeeding Month with AHP’s Lactation Care Management Program
August 28th, 2024 | Care Management•NewsThe AHP Lactation Care Management team celebrated National Breastfeeding Month in August with our patients and colleagues. Beginning with World Breastfeeding Week from the 1st to the 7th, each week of August is a celebration of breastfeeding for different groups around the country and world. The World Health Organization’s theme for World Breastfeeding Week 2024 was Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All. This message is central to our mission as Care Managers of Lactation. All families need and deserve access to education and support to optimize nutrition for their newborn children.
Lactation and human milk feeding are learned skills that are intricately linked with the health of both the parent and child. Culturally sensitive, timely access to appropriate lactation care is vital to our population health outcomes as well as our patients experience of care as they transition from obstetric to pediatric care for their newest family members. While we focus primarily on supporting patients with their individual infant feeding experiences, we also work in concert with our excellent colleagues at Noyes Memorial Hospitals, Jones Memorial Hospital, the URMC Breastfeeding Clinic, and the obstetric, pediatric, and family practice providers in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions to improve the way that our health care system supports family child health. Our team is pleased to celebrate the work we get to do with our teams each August and to take time to reflect on our gratitude and mission.
