Outpatient Psychiatric Consultations Available through UR Medicine Mental Health & Wellness
January 31st, 2023 | Behavioral Health•NewsThe UR Medicine Mental Health & Wellness Adult Ambulatory Clinic offers outpatient psychiatric consultations to primary care providers and current prescribing providers to help them manage the use of psychotropics in adult patients. Referring providers must be willing to continue to prescribe medications and obtain collateral information for the patient for whom the consultation is requested to utilize this service, as consulting psychiatrists through this program do not prescribe medications or offer medication management services. Following referral, a nurse will perform a phone triage. After successful triage, the patient will be scheduled for one visit with a consulting psychiatrist, ideally within 2-4 weeks. During the visit, which takes place in-person or by video and may include residents, nurses, or trainees, a psychiatrist will do an initial diagnostic assessment and recommend options for treatment which are sent back to the referring provider for consideration and ongoing management. Psychological testing and diagnostic evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are not performed through this service.
Providers are encouraged to refer patients with mood disorders, which is a primary focus of the clinic. Re-referrals are welcome if all recommendations have been considered and attempted without success. Providers not using UR Medicine’s instance of Epic – Call 585-275-3505 to refer patients or ask questions about the service.
