Raising Awareness for Breastfeeding in August

Raising Awareness for Breastfeeding in August

August 1st, 2025 | News

The first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week. This year’s theme is “Invest in Breastfeeding, Invest in the Future,” and we are thrilled to celebrate AHP’s Lactation Care Management program. The work we get to do as we partner with our community practices and rural hospitals reflects the growing investment our health care system is making in lactation care. The short- and long-term impact of human milk feeding on the health of parents and infants improves population health outcomes while reducing costs.

August is also National Breastfeeding Month in the U.S., where we celebrate the advocacy and perseverance of different groups who have unique barriers to overcome in their communities’ access to lactation care. “Forward Together” is the 2025 theme for this collection of observances:

  • WIC Breastfeeding Week: August 1st
  • Indigenous Milk Medicine Week: August 8th
  • Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Week: August 15th
  • Military Lactation Celebration Week: August 22nd
  • Black Breastfeeding Week: August 25th
  • Workplace Lactation Week: September 1st
  • Semana de la Lactancia Latina Week: September 8th

Each of these groups brings their own focus to the needs of their community as we all learn and grow together in our mission to improve lactation health equity.
