The Sunshine Act and Open Payments Data
During my presentation at Clinical Grand Rounds I talked about the “Physician Payment Sunshine Act”, enacted in 2010 and designed to increase transparency around the financial relationships between physicians, teaching hospitals, and manufacturers of drugs, medical devices and biologics. If you would like to view payments made by drug and device companies to physicians and teaching hospitals, as well as other information related to Open Payments Data, click here.
Revisions to Spine Imaging Reports
In the coming months you can expect to see changes in the language that is commonly used to report findings on advanced spine images. AHP’s Back Pain Committee has initiated a community-wide effort to encourage Radiologists to modify their reports to include a reference document that indicates the prevalence of certain common findings (e.g. disk bulging) for patients of similar age. It is our hope that this initiative will reduce patients’ concerns by putting these findings in a proper context, and also serve as a guide to the ordering physicians.
