Centralized Pediatric PCR COVID Testing Collection Sites – INTERIM UPDATE 10.18.21
October 20th, 2021 | ArchiveSites to support COVID testing of mildly symptomatic school-aged children (ages 3 to 18 years) have now fully opened today (October 18, 2021) in several locations in Monroe County:
- Golisano Children’s Hospital/UR Medicine: 200 White Spruce Blvd, Suite 100, Rochester
- Monroe County Department of Health Fleet Center: 145 Paul Rd, Rochester
- AcuteKids Urgent Care: 1243 Bay Rd, Webster
- Pediatric Urgent Care of Rochester: 6687 Pittsford Palmyra Rd, Fairport
The collective goal here has been to provide a supplement to the assessment/testing happening in primary care practice by offering sites for healthcare providers to redirect patients with mild symptoms (click here for algorithm) for PCR test collection.
The summary below highlights all of the centralized sites now open in Monroe County, their hours, referral and testing process. Because the majority of the sites encourage referral from a healthcare provider, this summary is being released only to healthcare providers and practice teams.
PLEASE NOTE: in an attempt to expedite reporting to patients/families and to schools, all of these locations will be contacting parents/caregivers directly with results and, if permission is signed by the patient/caregiver, faxing to the patient’s school and copying the patient’s primary care provider.
Important Reminder: ALL pediatric COVID test collection at this time can be nasopharyngeal (single sample from one side of the nose) or nasal mid-turbinate (sample from both sides of the nose). This is true for your practices and for these sites. For mid-turbinate swabs, collection is completed on both sides of the nose with a cotton swab inserted just to the point of mid-turbinate resistance.
