2023 Colorectal Cancer Screening Performance Being Monitored

July 31st, 2023 | Network News

Beginning on January 1, 2023, the lower age for patient inclusion in the colorectal cancer screening (CRC) measure decreased from 50 to 45 years old, increasing the number of patients eligible for colorectal cancer screening and included in measure performance. Regular monitoring of our network’s performance shows a decrease in CRC measure performance when compared to the same point in the year as in previous years. This information was shared by Elizabeth Sharp, Director of Clinical Operations and Quality Improvement, during a recent Adult PCP Advisory Committee meeting and the July AHP Update Call. To assist with our efforts to identify interventions that improve performance, providers were also invited to share their feedback any considerations relative to clinical practice and/or the community that may be impacting measure performance.

AHP will continue to monitor our network’s performance in the colorectal cancer screening measure and all other measures through the end of the year. Providers and staff responsible for quality are encouraged to use the measure definition pages on AHP’s website to understand changes to measure thresholds, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and special considerations for each measure.

If your practice would like to work with AHP’s Optimization Team to identify opportunities to improve your quality measure performance or if you would like to share insight into the current state of colorectal cancer screening, please contact Elizabeth Sharp.
