AHP Lactation Initiative Contributes to High Honors for Noyes Health

UR Medicine Noyes Health was recently recognized as High Performing in Maternity Care, the highest rating given, on U.S. News and World Report’s inaugural “Best Hospitals for Maternity” list. Only one-third of evaluated hospitals attain this rating. Hospitals on the Best Hospitals for Maternity list excel in the quality metrics that impact expecting families, including lower complication rates, lower C-section rates, and improved breastfeeding success.

The lactation initiative sponsored by AHP and spearheaded by lactation specialist Catherine Wightman, MS, IBCLC/RLC, was a highlight of the honor.  Piloted at Noyes starting in 2019, the initiative seeks to increase breastfeeding duration through focused care management for families during the transitions between prenatal, intrapartum and post partum settings.  The Noyes recognition speaks to the program’s ongoing success:  On average, northeast hospitals have a breastfeeding continuation rate of 48.5%, while Noyes Health achieved rates over 70%, one of the highest on the U.S. News list.
